Postdoc in 3D vision with Dhanraj Vishwanath

A 3-year postdoctoral research position in the area of human 3D vision is available in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience, University of St. Andrews.  The research project is aimed at understanding visual mechanisms underlying human binocular depth and 3D space perception, and especially, how these mechanisms yield the sense of realism and immersion that is characteristic of stereopsis.  The experiments will involve quantitative and qualitative psychophysical measurement, as well as hand-motion tracking, conducted on stereoscopic, VR and real objects/scenes.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, Neuroscience, Optometry or another related discipline, such as Biology or Physics, with an interest in vision/perception research.  Candidates should have experience with scientific programming (e.g., Matlab, PsychToolbox or C++), familiarity with statistical methods, and facility with setting up experimental hardware. Experience with experimental and/or computational approaches to visual perception, particularly stereoscopic vision, VR and 3D graphics, will be an added advantage. The project will be conducted in Dhanraj Vishwanath’s lab which is part of the Vision Group at the School of Psychology & Neuroscience.
